We further discuss evolving law and policy such as extreme risk protection orders for lethal means reduction.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss epidemiology of suicide and firearm suicide among US military veterans
2. Review general risk factors for suicide
3. Formulate how periods of mental health crisis can lead to suicide attempts
4. Illustrate how research in veteran firearm suicide has evolved
5. Introduce extreme risk protection orders as they are used in Maryland
6. Discuss future directions of suicide risk assessment and lethal means reduction in veterans and cultural competencies.
