Course Descriptions and Learning Objectives

This training explores the impact of vicarious trauma and countertransference on clinical supervisors and their supervises. Participants will learn to recognize the signs of vicarious trauma, understand its effects on professional and personal functioning, and implement strategies for managing it within the supervisory relationship. The session will also address countertransference, helping supervisors identify and manage their emotional responses to client material as well as supervise dynamics.  Through case studies, reflective exercises, and discussion, attendees will enhance their capacity to create a supportive, self-aware supervisory environment that promotes resilience, ethical decision-making, and emotional regulation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Recognize early signs of vicarious trauma and countertransference in themselves and their supervises.

2. Develop self-care and resilience-building practices to prevent burnout.

3. Create a reflective, supportive supervisory environment where emotional responses are processed constructively.

4. Ensure ethical and effective decision-making in clinical supervision.
